§ 42-42. Placement, change and removal.

  • (a)

    Generally.

    (1)

    Traffic control devices of the town shall be placed, erected, installed, changed or removed only upon order of the board of commissioners pursuant to action taken by the board and entered upon its minutes, and any such action shall be by ordinance when so required by law.

    (2)

    Unless otherwise provided by the board of commissioners in any instance, such orders of the board shall be executed under the direction of the chief of police.

    (b)

    Types authorized. Traffic control devices of the town within the purview of subsection (a) of this section shall include, but shall not be limited to, those indicating:

    (1)

    Stop and yield intersections;

    (2)

    Speed restrictions;

    (3)

    Limited or prohibited turning movements;

    (4)

    One-way streets;

    (5)

    Prohibited and restricted parking areas;

    (6)

    Truck routes and other restrictions as to vehicle types permitted to be driven upon the streets;

    (7)

    School zones;

    (8)

    Safety zones;

    (9)

    Zones of quiet;

    (10)

    Play streets;

    (11)

    Bus stops;

    (12)

    Taxicab stands;

    (13)

    Loading zones;

    (14)

    Business and residence districts; and

    (15)

    Tow-away zones.
